A man is dead after an apparent shooting along Interstate 64 on Thursday night, according to Virginia State Police.
Units responded to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. for the report of a crash and a man shot. The incident took place in the eastbound lanes at the 193-mile marker near Nine Mile Road in the Highland Springs area of Henrico County.
Officers found a 2002 Chevy Tahoe off the right-hand side of the road. Inside was a 41-year-old man who had been shot in the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“We’re asking the community for assistance in solving this case. If you witnessed anything suspicious or have any relevant information, please contact us immediately,” said Capt. Brien Frey of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. “Your help could be crucial in bringing justice to the victim and his family.”
