The latest winter storm rolled through the Richmond area Tuesday, with the northern parts of the region seeing the most snow.
A weather spotter reported to the National Weather Service that 5.5 inches of snow had fallen in the Gum Tree area of northern Hanover. Elsewhere in the county, Ashland saw a report of 3.8 inches of snow while Vontay in the western part of Hanover got 3.5 inches.

In Henrico, spotters measured 2.5 inches of snow in Glen Allen and Short Pump. Other parts of the region peaked between 0.8 and 2 inches, including the city of Richmond.
Hollins, located near the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, saw 12.5 inches of snow, the highest reported total in Virginia, as of 6 p.m. Tuesday. Iron Gate in eastern Alleghany County had 11 to 12 inches.

No major outages were reported by Dominion Energy as of late Tuesday. On the west side of the state, Smyth and Buchanan counties experienced power outages, per Appalachian Power.
Storm affects traffic statewide
As the winter storm spread across Virginia, Virginia State Police reported 305 crashes throughout the state between midnight and 4 p.m. Tuesday; 24 of those crashes resulted in injuries. No fatalities were reported.
In VSP’s Division 1 area, which covers much of central Virginia including the Richmond area, plus the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck regions, 46 crashes were reported, with five of them involving injuries.
In Richmond, crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation were prepping the roads for ice due to expected sleet and freezing rain coming late Tuesday into early Wednesday.

Thursday temperatures are slated to rise into the 50s, with rain leaving the area by the evening.
Schools closed or delayed Wednesday
Inclement weather will continue to affect school schedules Wednesday, including the closure of Hanover schools.
Richmond and Chesterfield schools will open two hours late on Wednesday, while Henrico schools will have an asynchronous remote learning day.
