Short Pump Station, the shopping center that includes Trader Joe’s grocery store, was sold last month from one out-of-town landlord to another.
New York-based Wafra Inc. sold the 12-acre property to Chicago-based Nuveen Real Estate for almost $55 million.
The center, which includes six buildings along 11331 W. Broad St., attracts 2.3 million annual visits, Wafra said, making it among the top 15% busiest shopping centers in the country. Ulta Beauty and Petco are two other major tenants.

Short Pump Station shopping center has been sold from one out-of-town landlord to another.
“Given its prime location and strong local appeal, I am confident this highly attractive retail destination will continue to thrive under its new ownership,” said David Hamm, head of real estate at Wafra.

The shopping center, built in 2008, was assessed by Henrico County for about $41 million last year. Nuveen also owns the Creeks at Virginia Centre in northern Henrico, across Brook Road from the Henrico Sports & Events Center.
John Owendoff of Cushman & Wakefield and Catharine Spangler of Thalhimer represented the seller.
Despite the shift to buying online, shopping centers in western Henrico remain strong. Several have sold for high prices in the past two years.
