Del. Danny Marshall, R-Danville, the sixth most senior delegate of the 100-member chamber, announced Wednesday he is not seeking reelection and will retire at the end of this year.
Marshall, 73, has served in the Virginia House since 2002.

Del. Danny Marshall, R-Danville, makes a phone call inside the Old House Chamber in the State Capitol during a break in the floor session in the Virginia House of Delegates in Richmond on Feb. 1, 2022.
“I will still be your delegate until the end of the year, but I will not seek to have my name on the ballot in November,” Marshall said in a newsletter to his constituents.
“Our office will strive to help you, and I will still be working hard to bring economic development opportunities during this final year in office.”
Marshall did not state a reason for his retirement. He has been absent from this year’s legislative session.
Marshall’s district is Republican-leaning and is made up of the city of Danville, along with parts of Halifax and Pittsylvania counties in Southside Virginia.

All 100 House seats are up for election this year, and two Democrats have filed to run for Marshall’s seat: Danville City Councilman Gary Miller and Jasmine Lipscomb, who filed to run for the seat in 2023 but failed to qualify.
Marshall’s work in the state legislature has largely focused on economic development and revitalization in Southside Virginia.
